4BAR — Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 10, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information the 4BAR mobile application (the "App") collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. We designed 4BAR to collect as little personal information as possible: the App has no user accounts, and the videos and lyrics you create stay on your device.
1. Information stored on your device (not collected by us)
The following never leaves your device unless you choose to share or export it:
- Videos you record, including camera and microphone recordings
- Lyrics and notepads you write, including saved lyrics files
- Photos or videos saved to your camera roll
We do not upload, view, or store your recordings or lyrics on our servers. When you share a video to another platform (such as Instagram or TikTok), that platform's own privacy policy applies to what you share there.
2. Information we collect automatically
When you use the App, we and our service providers collect limited technical and usage data:
- Usage analytics — which screens you visit and in-app events (for example, which beat was chosen or which recording format is used), collected through Google Firebase Analytics along with device-level identifiers, IP address, device model, operating-system version, language, and country/region.
- Crash data — crash logs and diagnostic information, collected through Firebase Crashlytics, used solely to find and fix bugs.
- Push notification token — if you allow notifications, a device token is registered through Firebase Cloud Messaging so we can send them.
- Advertising data — the free version of the App shows ads served by Google AdMob. When you first launch the App, iOS asks — through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt — whether 4BAR may track your activity across other companies' apps and websites. If you tap "Allow," Google may use your device's advertising identifier and activity data to show you personalized ads. If you choose "Ask App Not to Track," your advertising identifier is not shared and you will see non-personalized ads instead, selected from contextual information such as your general location, device type, and what is on screen. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, we additionally ask for your consent to personalized ads through a consent form; you can decline and continue using the App with non-personalized ads. Google's collection and use of advertising data are described in Google's Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
- Server logs — when the App downloads beats or home-feed videos from our hosting provider, standard server logs (such as IP address and request time) are generated.
3. Information you provide
- Beat leases — if you lease a beat, we collect the name and email address you enter so we can deliver the beat file and a record of the lease terms by email. Lease payments are processed by Stripe via Apple Pay; your card details go directly to the payment processor and never reach our servers. Purchase records (which beat, amount, date, and the email used) are retained for accounting and to re-send your file if needed.
- Subscriptions — subscription purchases are processed entirely by Apple. We do not receive your name, email, or payment details from a subscription; the App only learns which subscription tier is active on the device.
- Support — if you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in the message.
4. Device permissions
The App requests the following iOS permissions, used only for the stated purpose:
- Camera — to record your videos
- Microphone — to record your vocals
- Photo library — to save your finished videos to your camera roll
You can change these permissions at any time in iOS Settings. The App never accesses the camera, microphone, or photo library in the background.
5. How we use information
- To operate and improve the App, including fixing crashes and understanding which features are used
- To deliver purchases (leased beats by email; subscription entitlements on-device)
- To send push notifications you have opted into
- To show ads in the free version of the App (personalized only if you have allowed it — see "Advertising data" above)
- To comply with legal obligations
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party marketing.
6. Who we share information with
We share information only with the service providers needed to run the App:
- Google (Firebase, AdMob) — analytics, crash reporting, push notifications, content hosting, and ad serving
- Apple — App Store distribution and subscription billing
- Stripe — payment processing for beat leases
- Email delivery provider — to send leased beats to the email address you provide
These providers process data under their own privacy policies and our instructions. We may also disclose information if required by law.
7. Data retention
Analytics and crash data are retained according to Firebase's standard retention periods. Beat-lease purchase records are kept as long as needed for accounting and customer support. Content on your device is under your control and remains until you delete it or the App.
8. Your rights
Where we process personal information, we rely on the following legal bases: performance of a contract (delivering purchases you make), our legitimate interests (analytics, crash reporting, improving the App, and showing non-personalized ads), and your consent (push notifications and personalized advertising).
Depending on where you live — including under the GDPR (EU/UK) and the CCPA (California) — you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of personal information we hold about you, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. For most users, the only personal information we hold is a beat-lease purchase record. To exercise these rights, contact us at the address below; we will respond within the time required by applicable law. We do not sell personal information and will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights. EU and UK users also have the right to lodge a complaint with their local data-protection supervisory authority. You can also reset or limit ad and analytics identifiers in iOS Settings, and you can withdraw tracking permission at any time in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you can change your ad-consent choices at any time via the privacy options available in the App.
9. Children
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Security
We use industry-standard service providers and safeguards to protect the limited data we handle. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but the most sensitive content — your recordings — never leaves your device through us at all.
11. International users
Our service providers store data on servers that may be located outside your country, including the United States. By using the App you understand your information may be processed in those locations.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The current version will always be available at this page, with the effective date shown above.
